Bhadrak Youth Hospitalised After Carrying Venomous Snake Around Neck
A bizarre incident in Odisha has left residents shocked after a 32‑year‑old man was hospitalised following multiple snakebites.
The youth, identified as Subal Sahu from Hatadihi block in Keonjhar district, had picked up a snake near his uncle’s house in Palasa village, mistaking it for harmless.
He placed the reptile inside his bag and roamed the local market, showing it off to onlookers.
Witnesses reported that the snake grew agitated and bit him several times, causing bleeding. Despite the bites, Subal continued to play recklessly with the reptile—pressing its mouth against his cheek and touching its tongue.
Alarmed locals eventually removed the snake and secured it in a jar before rushing it to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital.
Doctors expressed surprise at his stable condition despite repeated bites.
Blood samples were collected to confirm the presence of venom, and anti‑venom injections will be administered if poison is detected. Subal, a mason by profession, remains under medical observation.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion in Palasa and surrounding areas, with residents condemning the act as dangerous and warning others against such risky behaviour.
