Bear Attack in Mayurbhanj Forest: Youth Critically Injured in Satkosia Encounter
Mayurbhanj, August 27(OT Webdesk): In a harrowing wildlife encounter, 24-year-old Kishore Liangi was critically injured after being attacked by a bear in the Satkosia forest near Pathiria Sahi, Thakurmundu block.
The incident occurred around 3 PM while Kishore and his relative, Ramesh Liangi, were returning from grazing cattle.
According to eyewitness accounts, the bear emerged suddenly from the forest and launched a violent attack.
Kishore attempted to defend himself with a small axe, but the bear bit him on the leg and thigh before retreating.
Ramesh quickly alerted family members, who carried Kishore to State Highway 53 and transported him to Thakurmundu Community Health Centre via auto-rickshaw.
Medical reports confirmed a broken left leg and deep thigh wounds. Due to the severity of his injuries, Kishore was referred to Anandpur Sub-Divisional Hospital for advanced treatment.
The incident underscores the growing tension between human settlements and wildlife habitats in Odisha’s forested regions, raising urgent questions about safety protocols and conservation strategies.
