BDA Launches Rs4 Crore Redevelopment of Kaligadia and Garabadu Crematoriums in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Oct 24 — In a major step toward enhancing civic dignity and last rite infrastructure, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has initiated redevelopment projects for two key crematoriums in the Old Town area—Kaligadia and Garabadu.

Ekamra MLA Shri Babu Singh laid the foundation stones today, marking the beginning of a Rs 4.06 crore investment aimed at transforming these spaces into clean, green, and respectful environments for final rites.

Kaligadia will receive Rs 2.21 crore, while Garabadu is allocated Rs 1.85 crore.

The upgraded facilities will include dedicated parking zones, boundary walls, security kiosks, staff and caretaker rooms, gender-specific changing areas, waiting halls, pyre wood storage, and cremation platforms.

BDA also plans to enhance the surroundings with landscaped zones, water bodies, internal pathways, and peripheral drainage systems.

BDA Vice-Chairman Chanchal Rana emphasised the importance of community support for timely completion and announced plans for a new modern crematorium at Dumuduma.

The initiative aligns with Bhubaneswar’s Smart City mission, reinforcing the government’s commitment to compassionate urban development.

Local corporators, BDA Secretary Manas Ranjan Padhi, and senior officials attended the ceremony, underscoring the collaborative spirit behind the project.
