BCPPER envisioned as key driver of USD 500 Billion economy by 2036: Anna Roy

Bhubaneswar, Sep 16 (UNI) The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack-Puri-Paradip Economic Region (BCPPER) has been envisioned as a key driver to achieve a USD 500-billion economy by 2036, supporting Odisha’s broader aspiration of becoming a USD 1.5-trillion economy by 2047, Principal Economic Advisor to NITI Aayog, Anna Roy, said.

Speaking at a Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on BCPPER today, Roy outlined an exhaustive “Growth-Hub Strategy” for the corridor.

Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Garg highlighted the unique character of the four core cities—Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, and Paradip,and stressed that this distinctiveness must be preserved and celebrated even as the region moves towards rapid urban and economic expansion.

The session brought together senior government officials, industry leaders, experts, and civil society representatives to deliberate on the BCPPER Growth-Hub Economic Plan.

Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Usha Padhee underscored the importance of ensuring that development remains rooted in sustainability and Odia Asmita (identity and pride).
She added that the BCPPER initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat, calling for growth that balances economic ambition with cultural heritage.
The consultation saw active participation from senior state officials along with representatives from industry bodies, academia, and resource organisations.

During the open forum, stakeholders put forward a wide range of recommendations, including the need for stronger environmental safeguards, climate-resilient infrastructure, investments in research and innovation, thematic tourism circuits, expanded healthcare and neighbourhood amenities, improved waste management systems, and inclusive planning through community collectives and affordable housing.
According to official sources, these contributions will guide the Government’s next steps in finalising the BCPPER roadmap, which already identifies more than 65 priority projects and 37 policy reforms.
Additional Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Satrughna Kar, reaffirmed the State’s commitment to translating the roadmap into actionable projects backed by coordinated governance mechanisms.
