Barbil Police and Civil Society Lead Cyber Security Awareness with Grand Cyclothon

Barbil :  In a remarkable initiative to spread awareness on cyber security, Barbil Police, in collaboration with Barbil Civil Society, organized a Cyclothon and Cyber Security Awareness Program today. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens, intellectuals, students, police officers, and staff, turning the mining town into a hub of digital safety advocacy.

The program commenced at Kiriburu Chowk, in front of the Barbil SDPO office. Welcoming the gathering, Barbil IIC Ashok Kumar Nayak shared vital information on cybercrime and its growing threats. The Chief Guest, SDPO Devendra Nath Pingua, addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in the digital age and practical steps to safeguard against online fraud.

 

Adding a personal dimension, Civil Society member Vikas Kumar narrated his experience of narrowly escaping cyber fraud, while Neelamani Mahanta shared how he fell victim to online deception. Their testimonies highlighted the urgent need for awareness among the public.

 

The Cyber Police Department further engaged the audience with a street play, dramatizing common cyber fraud scenarios and preventive measures. Following the program at the SDPO office, cyclists embarked on a city-wide rally, spreading messages of caution and awareness. The procession culminated at the Old Bus Stand, where another street play was staged, drawing large crowds.

To involve the younger generation, a quiz competition was organized for school students, testing their knowledge of cyber safety. All participating students were honored with certificates and medals, recognizing their role in the successful Cyclothon. The Police Department also arranged refreshments for attendees, ensuring a warm and inclusive atmosphere.

Among the distinguished guests were Barbil Municipality Executive Officer Ramesh Chandra Nayak, along with Civil Society members Chandragupt Prasad and Raju Gunwant, who lent their support to the initiative.

The event was hailed as a milestone in Barbil’s civic engagement, combining public participation, cultural expression, and digital literacy to combat the rising menace of cybercrime.
