Barbil (Odisha Today): The Barbil DMF Library, located in the Bikash Mahal Campus of Barbil Municipality, has emerged as a premier centre for readers and students seeking a peaceful environment for study and learning. Officially inaugurated on April 28, 2022, the library has become a vital resource for knowledge seekers in the region.
Built with the assistance of the District Mineral Fund (DMF), the library was established with a budget of ₹52 lakh, including ₹40 lakh for infrastructure development and ₹12 lakh for interior arrangements. Considering Barbil’s prominence in the mining sector, this initiative aims to cater to the educational needs of its residents.
A Well-Equipped Study Space
The library offers free access to readers from 10 AM to 1 PM and 3 PM to 6 PM daily. To ensure a conducive learning environment, separate reading sections have been designated for men, women, and children. Special provisions have been made for young learners, with two dedicated rooms featuring colorful, child-friendly furniture and comfortable seating arrangements for accompanying guardians.
Vast Collection and Facilities
The library boasts an extensive collection of books, including religious texts, historical accounts, geography, political science, literature, science, novels, dictionaries, and storybooks, available in Odia, Hindi, English, and other regional languages. Children can also enjoy a variety of engaging and informative books suited to their interests.
Additionally, leading newspapers from across the state and country are accessible to visitors. A water purification system has been installed for clean drinking water, and separate washroom facilities are provided for men and women.

With a structured setup and peaceful atmosphere, the library is proving to be an invaluable resource for individuals preparing for competitive examinations. The library is managed by Barbil Municipality, with Sachin Mahant appointed to oversee its operations and maintain records of visitors. Intellectual discussions and gatherings are also hosted periodically, bringing together scholars and academicians. Plans are in place to upgrade the library into a digital resource hub, along with proposals to introduce air-conditioning for enhanced comfort.
