Barbil Congress Commemorates Gandhi & Shastri Jayanti, Launches ‘Odisha Pathe Gandhi’ Movement

Barbil, — On the solemn occasion of the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, the Barbil Nagar Congress Committee organised a commemorative event at Barbil Bikash Mahal, paying heartfelt tribute to the two iconic sons of India.

Under the guidance of Odisha Pradesh Congress President Bhakta Charan Das, the state-wide initiative titled “Odisha Pathe Gandhi” was officially launched from Barbil, marking a renewed commitment to Gandhian values and grassroots engagement across the region.

The event was steered by Barbil Nagar Congress President Amit Kumar Mahanta, who welcomed dignitaries and participants.

The chief guest was former Member of Parliament and current Chairman of the Odisha Tribal Advisory Council, Yashwant Narayan Singh Laguri. He was joined by senior Congress leaders Daya Nidhi Mahapatra, Dalu Behera, Joda Nagar Congress President Subrat Kumar Nayak, Md. Mazhar Iqbal, Mangal Sahu, and Md. Hamid.

Speakers reflected on the enduring legacy of Gandhi’s principles of truth and nonviolence, and Shastri’s call for national unity through “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.” The gathering emphasised the relevance of these ideals in today’s socio-political landscape and called for collective action to uphold them.

The launch of “Odisha Pathe Gandhi” from Barbil is seen as a symbolic and strategic move, reaffirming the Congress party’s commitment to inclusive development, ethical governance, and the empowerment of tribal and marginalised communities.

The event concluded with a pledge to carry forward the spirit of Gandhi and Shastri through sustained public outreach and civic engagement across Odisha.
