Banakalagi Niti at Srimandir: No Public Darshan from 5 PM to 10 PM Today

Puri, December 3, 2025 — The sacred Banakalagi Niti ritual is being observed at the Jagannath Temple in Puri today, reinforcing centuries-old traditions of devotion and renewal.

Temple priests are performing the ceremony with precision, applying natural colours and pastes to the facial features of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra.

This ritual symbolises rejuvenation of divine energy and preservation of Odisha’s spiritual heritage.

According to the temple administration, the ritual commenced after the second bhog at the Bhog Mandap.

To maintain sanctity and confidentiality, public darshan has been suspended from 5 PM to 10 PM. Devotees will be allowed to resume darshan promptly after the completion of the ceremony.

Officials have urged pilgrims and tourists to plan their visit accordingly, emphasising that respecting the discipline of the Banakalagi Niti reflects reverence toward the deities.

Necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth execution and safety for all visitors.

The Banakalagi Niti continues to stand as a testament to Odisha’s cultural and spiritual legacy, drawing devotees from across the country to witness its timeless significance.
