Balasore sees normalcy return: Schools Reopen, Internet Services Restored

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), June 24: A week after being banned due to a group clash, internet services were reinstated in Balasore town and surrounding areas on Monday following significant improvements in the situation. A senior official confirmed that the curfew imposed in the town has been relaxed in Sahadevkhunta police station areas from 5 am to 9 pm and in Town police station areas from 5 am to 2 pm.
While broadband and landline services were restored on Sunday, mobile internet services resumed on Monday morning. Additionally, all schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centers reopened on Monday as normalcy was restored.
To prevent the spread of rumors, a cyber team from the administration has been monitoring social media closely. Authorities have taken strict action, arresting 89 individuals and filing 29 cases related to the clash so far.
Despite the restoration of internet services, District Collector Asish Thakre and SP Sagarika Nath have warned of stringent action against anyone spreading rumors to incite tension in the town.
Following clashes between two communities that resulted in 10 injuries on Bakrid, authorities had initially shut down internet services in Balasore town and escalated prohibitory orders to a full curfew to prevent further unrest.
