AVVY emerges as a boon for senior citizens in Odisha: Officials
Bhubaneswar, Sept 3 (UNI) The Ayushman Vaya Vandana Yojana (AVVY) has emerged as a major step towards universal healthcare for senior citizens in Odisha, officials said today.
The scheme has become a boon and a savior for elderly and retired people across the state, irrespective of their economic background. It is rapidly gaining popularity, from the capital city to the remotest villages.
According to official data, around 5.82 lakh senior citizens from 5.33 lakh families have registered under the scheme within just five months, up to the end of August 2025.
Launched in Odisha on April 11, 2025, the scheme has already benefited over 10,146 senior citizens, who received cashless treatment in empaneled private sector specialist hospitals both within and outside the state.
Under AVVY, each senior citizen family is entitled to cashless treatment worth Rs 5 lakh annually, with an additional Rs.5 lakh allocated for the female member of the family.
So far, the Odisha Government has provided nearly Rs.3,960.77 lakh through AVVY cards towards the cost of treatment.
