Auto Drivers’ Union Protest Paralyzes Bhubaneswar Traffic Over Arrest Dispute

Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: Hundreds of auto-rickshaw drivers from the Smart City Online Auto Drivers’ Union staged a protest outside the Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar today, demanding justice over recent arrests linked to a violent clash with the rival Station Auto Drivers’ Union.

The demonstration, which saw autos lined up from Rajmahal to AG Square, caused hours-long traffic congestion across the city’s core.

The protest was sparked by the arrest of several drivers from both unions following a physical altercation earlier this week.

According to reports, the conflict began when a Smart City driver was allegedly assaulted by members of the Station Union, triggering a retaliatory clash that left several injured and disrupted public order.

Union leaders accused the police of bias, claiming that innocent drivers were detained while the actual perpetrators remained free. They submitted a memorandum demanding a fair investigation and the immediate release of their colleagues.

Despite the disruption, the protest remained peaceful. Police deployed additional personnel to manage the crowd and restore traffic flow.

Senior officers assured union representatives that the matter would be reviewed thoroughly and justice would be ensured.

Local residents expressed concern over the recurring tensions between auto unions, urging authorities to facilitate legal resolution mechanisms to prevent future public inconvenience.
