Assistant Collector accused of harassment, suspended by Government


Bhubaneswar, Dec 19: Umesh Chandra Lenka, an assistant collector in Jagatsinghpur district, has been suspended following allegations of misbehavior toward a female employee at the district collectorate.
The incident reportedly took place on April 10, prompting the woman to file a formal complaint against Lenka, accusing him of both physical and mental harassment.
In response to the complaint, the District Grievance Committee conducted a thorough investigation into the allegations. The findings from this investigation were subsequently submitted to the government for review. Based on the report’s conclusions, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari ordered Lenka’s suspension and initiated a departmental inquiry into the matter.
Minister Pujari emphasized the Mohan Majhi government’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding any form of violence or abuse against women, reinforcing the administration’s stance on ensuring a safe and respectful working environment for all employees.
The case highlights the importance of addressing harassment in the workplace and the government’s proactive approach to handling such serious allegations. The ongoing departmental investigation will further examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine appropriate actions moving forward.
