Anubhav Mohanty faces NBW in Barsha Priyadarshini case, court sets deadline

Cuttack, (Orissa Today), May 13: A non-bailable warrant (NBW) has been issued against Anubhav Mohanty and his associate in the Barsha Priyadarshini harassment case by the Cuttack special JMFC court on Monday. The court has directed the implementation of the NBW by May 23 after dismissing a time petition due to Anubhav’s absence.

Public Prosecutor Afroz Ahmed confirmed this development today, noting that there has been no response from Anubhav regarding the matter.

Anubhav Mohanty, who is also an MP, failed to appear in court on May 10, resulting in the postponement of charge framing. His lawyer requested additional time citing personal reasons.

The case stems from allegations filed at the Purighat police station in 2020, accusing Anubhav and two others, Sujit Dallei and Khagendra Prasad Sahu, of mental and physical torture, threats, and other charges. Anubhav’s discharge petition faced opposition from government lawyers, with the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) stating that evidence supporting Barsha Priyadarshini’s allegations had been established, though further detailed reports were awaited.
