Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), June 13: In a joyous development for devotees of Lord Jagannath, all four doors of the renowned Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha, have been opened. This decision was made during the first cabinet meeting of the newly formed BJP Government in Odisha on Wednesday.
As pledged, starting today, all four gates (dwaras) of the Srimandir, the revered Jagannath temple in Puri, Odisha, are accessible to devotees during the Mangala Alati rituals. The announcement to open these doors was made by Odisha’s new Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, a day prior. To mark this occasion, the Chief Minister and other ministers traveled to Puri to participate in the ‘dwara phita’ rituals.
Furthermore, Chief Minister Majhi disclosed plans to establish a corpus fund of Rs 500 crore for the development and management of the Srimandir in Puri.
The process to open the temple’s four doors commenced on June 11, with a meeting chaired by Puri
District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain. Officials from the shrine’s administration and police inspected the site, forming a committee to finalize the decision.
Meanwhile, preparations for the upcoming Rath Yatra 2024 are underway at the Ratha yard (khala) on Puri’s grand road.
The demand to open all four doors of the Puri Jagannath Temple had been growing for some time, intensifying notably in July 20, 2023.
