Bhubaneswar( Orissa Today)- April 25, 2025: AIIMS Bhubaneswar has made medical history by inaugurating Odisha’s first-ever Robotic Knee Replacement facility in the government sector, a revolutionary step in accessible healthcare.

The landmark surgery, performed on a 66-year-old patient suffering from severe arthritis, has demonstrated the precision and efficiency offered by robotic technology. The patient is now stable and recovering well.

Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhubaneswar, highlighted the facility’s significance in bridging gaps in advanced healthcare. With support from initiatives like Ayushman Bharat, robotic surgeries are now accessible to all strata of society, ensuring inclusivity and better outcomes.

The adoption of robotic technology minimises human error and enhances surgical accuracy, especially for complex cases. The Orthopaedics department, led by Dr. Bishnu Prasad Patro, emphasised that this leap forward positions AIIMS Bhubaneswar at the forefront of innovation in medical care in Eastern India.
