AIIMS Bhubaneswar Launches Liver Transplant Unit and Robotic Surgery System
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda virtually inaugurated a state‑of‑the‑art Liver Transplant Unit and launched an Advanced Surgical Robotic System at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, marking a significant leap in tertiary healthcare for Odisha and eastern India.
The new liver transplant facility includes a dedicated modular operating theatre, a 10‑bed ICU, and a speciality clinic for post‑transplant care.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar has already completed two successful liver transplants, with patients recovering well.
The institute also became the first government medical institution in Odisha to operationalise robotic surgery, initially covering Urology, General Surgery, Gynaecology, and Paediatric Surgery.
Robotic procedures promise minimally invasive interventions, greater precision, and faster recovery times.
These advanced services are accessible under Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi, ensuring financial protection for economically weaker patients.
Leaders, including Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi and Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava, praised AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s role as a model among AIIMS institutions.
With this milestone, AIIMS Bhubaneswar strengthens its position as a premier healthcare hub, expanding access to cutting‑edge medical technology for the region.
