Ahead of key polls, Actor and TVK Founder Vijay launches mass outreach

Chennai, Sep 13 (UNI) Positioning his nascent Tamilaga Vetrri Kaznagam (TVK) as a primary force and not an alternative force to the two Dravidian majors, charismatic actor-turned neta Vijay, launched his four-month-long state-wide mass outreach from he Central region of Trichy and coming under the Cauvery Delta districts today, ahead of the crucial Assembly polls.

Tens and hundreds and thousands of enthusiastic TVK cadres, carrying Party flags and his portraits accorded
a rousing reception right from the airport to the Marakkadai area, where he addressed them.

Buoyed by the rousing reception, Vijay, who travelled in a specially designed campaign van, waved to his supports and fans, as banners and festoons dotted the routes from Trichy airport.

It took more than one hour for his convoy to reach the 6 km distance from Airport to Marakkadai area, the place permitted by the police for his outreach programme, with 23 conditions, as a lage number of his party cadres lined up on both sides of the roads to greet him and welcome him by beating of drums.
Enthused by the massive turnout at his two state conferences last month at Madurai and late last year at
Villupuram, Vijay hit the campaign trail as the 2026 assembly election is only a few months ahead, in which
his new party would be testing its electoral fortunes for the first time.
Vijay had already come down hard on the ruling DMK, which he termed as corrupt and adopting dynastic
politics, and the ‘communal’ BJP, terming them as ‘political’ and ‘ideological’ adversaries respectively and that his TVK was a primary force in the bi-poliar TN politics–ruled alternatively by the DMK and the AIADMK –for nearly six decades, and not an alternative force as perceived by some parties.

Vijay, in his first outreach programme, which will take place on Saturdays only, will conclude on December 20 and this hs come in criticisms from various political parties.
Police have made elaborate security arrangements for the outreach programme and the TVK for his part has directed the party cadres notto burst crackers or following Vijay’s campaign vehicle.

With the DMK under Chief Minister MK Stalin having activated its powerful election machinery and the Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami already on a whirlwind tour of the state, the TVK could not be seen lagging behind.

From Trichy, Vijay later addressed rallies in adjoining Perambalur and Ariyalur districts.

Unlike a continuous tour with roadshows, it will be a week-end affair, on Saturdays except on one occasion when he would cover Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Tirupur and Erode on both Saturday and Sunday.
The four-month-long campaign would conclude at Madurai on December 20 after covering Dindigul and Theni
districts. and.
According to observers he is eyeing the Dravidian political space by projecting himself as the alternative and appropriating Dravidian icons, ‘Periyar’ EV Ramasamy, Anna (CN Annadurai).
Reiterating that the DMK is the political adversary of the TVK, he identifies the BJP as fascist and ideological enemy and asserted that the contest in 2026 is between the TVK and the DMK, which he charged as being
corrupt and dynastic, bereft of ideology.
At the Madurai conference, he claimed the legacy of late AIADMK founder and matinee icon, MGR and Anna
drive home the point that as in 1967 and in 1977 there will be a political change in the state. In 1967, the DMK under the party founder Anna, dethroned the Congress and captured power while in 1977,
MGR, who launched the AIADMK after quitting the DMK in 1972, became Chief Minister.
Since 1967 neither the Congress nor any other national party could dream of forming a government in this
Dravidian heartland.
And for his part, MGR, remained the Chief Minister till his death in 1987, keeping the DMK out of power.
And now, Vijay, considering himself as the agent of change, has attempted to lure the DMK’s allies with

the bait of share in power, which has been an anathema to both the DMK and the AIADMK.
But, so far none of the allies of the DMK have taken the bait, since he is untested.
After sopping short of mentioning AIADMK in his party’s first political conference in Villupuram, Vijay
took potshots at the AIADMK for joining the BJP-led NDA and termed it as an act of abject surrender
and betrayal of Tamil Nadu’s interests.
Many surveys indicate growing support for Vijay, especially among the youth and first-time voters as
well as women. He has a huge fan base and it is the fulcrum of TVK.
