Accused Escapes Jajpur Police Station; Three Cops Suspended for Negligence
Jajpur, Odisha: A dramatic escape from police custody has sparked outrage and disciplinary action in Jajpur district.
Late Friday night, Ashish Behera of Chandamohini village fled from the lock-up at Brahmabarada police station, where he had been detained in connection with a theft case.
During his escape, Behera allegedly stole a laptop from the police station and a motorcycle parked nearby.
He later met with an accident that injured one person, abandoned the vehicle, and managed to vanish.
Following a preliminary inquiry by Jajpur Road SDPO Sarat Chandra Patra, Superintendent of Police Yashpratap Shrimal suspended three police personnel — one Assistant Sub-Inspector and two Constables — for negligence.
Authorities have launched a massive manhunt to trace Behera, while further investigation is underway to determine how such a serious breach of security occurred.
