Drone Breach Over Srimandir Sparks Security Alarm in Puri

PURI, Sept 29 — In a disturbing recurrence, a drone was spotted hovering over the Jagannath Temple in Puri on Sunday, violating the no-fly zone and triggering serious security concerns.

The incident occurred during the ceremonial flag-changing ritual, a sacred moment for devotees, when the drone reportedly lingered above key temple areas, including Anand Bazaar and Snana Mandap, for nearly 15 minutes.

This marks the second such breach within a week, raising questions about surveillance lapses in one of Odisha’s most protected religious sites. While the drone’s origin remains unknown, suspicion has surfaced around certain servitors present during the ritual.

Authorities have yet to identify the operator or determine the motive behind the intrusion.

Temple officials and devotees have expressed alarm over the repeated violations, urging immediate action to reinforce aerial security and prevent future incidents.

The temple complex, designated a high-security zone, is expected to be under constant surveillance, making the breach particularly troubling.

Local law enforcement and temple administration are under pressure to launch a thorough investigation and implement stricter drone monitoring protocols.

The incident has reignited debates around technological misuse and the need for robust enforcement in heritage zones.
