Bhubaneswar, July 16 (UNI) The first meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project was held today to deliberate on the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) and decongestion strategies for the city.
A sub-committee was constituted under the direction of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, comprising a panel of ministers. Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Farmers’ Empowerment, and Energy, K. V. Singh Deo, was appointed chairman of the sub-committee.
The meeting focused on several key issues including the modalities for project implementation,
inter-departmental coordination, strengthening the public transport system in Bhubaneswar, and ensuring a seamless rail-road transition to ease traffic congestion.
Future steps for the Metro project will be guided by the need to serve public interest and ensure effective traffic management.
In this context, discussions were also held with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials including CEO Kalyan Patnaik, Managing Director Vikas Kumar, and Director Pramit Garg.
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) has been engaged in preparation of the Detailed Project Report for the Metro Rail system from Bhubaneswar Airport to Trisulia Square.
The Odisha Government has set up a State Owned Public Limited Company in the name of “Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL)” in the month of August 2023.
The length of the first phase of the project is 26 Kms and the estimated completion cost of the
project is Rs. 6255.94 Crore, which will be borne entirely by the Odisha Government.
The entire Metro Corridor from Bhubaneswar Airport to Trisulia will be on an elevated corridor
with 20 stations
This project is set to transform the transport landscape of the Capital Region.The first phase of the Metro project will serve major educational institutions, hospitals, commercial complexes, transport nodes and Government & corporate offices.
The meeting was attended by Law, Works, and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan; Industry, Skill Development, and Technical Education Minister Sampada Chandra Swain; Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja; Principal Secretary (Finance) Saswat Mishra; Principal Secretary (Housing and Urban Development) Usha Padhee; and BMC Commissioner Rajesh Pravakar Patil.
