Minu Muneer defamation case

July 2,  | Kochi (OT Webdesk): Malayalam actor Minu Muneer was granted bail on Tuesday in a defamation case filed by renowned actor-director Balachandra Menon.

The case centres on a series of controversial social media posts made by Muneer in 2024, which allegedly defamed Menon and tarnished his reputation.

Muneer was arrested by the cybercrime wing of the Kochi Police following the Kerala High Court’s decision to reject her anticipatory bail plea. After interrogation, she was released on bail on July 1.

According to police sources, Muneer repeatedly published defamatory remarks over several months, triggering a formal complaint from Menon.

The cybercrime unit is currently compiling digital evidence for inclusion in the forthcoming charge sheet.

The incident has rekindled wider debates on the accountability of public figures on social media.

Egal analysts stress the importance of ethical digital conduct and warn of increased vigilance from cybercrime enforcement agencies.

In the Malayalam film industry, reactions have been measured. While some insiders call for professionalism and restraint, others caution against suppressing artistic expression.

Muneer has yet to make a public statement, while the investigation continues.
