New Delhi, May 9, 2025 ( OT Webdesk)– The Russian government is set to honour legendary Indian leader and former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik for his heroic contributions during World War II.
The special tribute will take place during the 80th anniversary celebration of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War, hosted by the Russian Embassy in New Delhi.
Patnaik, a fearless pilot with Indian National Airways during the 1940s, played a crucial role in aiding Soviet troops by delivering essential supplies during the Battle of Stalingrad.
His daring missions helped sustain the Soviet war effort against Nazi Germany at a pivotal moment in history.
The Russian Federation has invited Naveen Patnaik, President of the Biju Janata Dal and son of Biju Patnaik, as the Guest of Honour at the commemoration event.
The tribute recognises Biju Patnaik’s unwavering commitment to global peace and his instrumental role in supporting the anti-Hitler coalition.
Russia previously acknowledged Patnaik’s contributions in 1995, awarding him a jubilee medal for the 50th anniversary of the Soviet victory.
His legacy extends beyond his wartime efforts, having twice served as Chief Minister of Odisha, championing development and national progress.
The event will be attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar as the Chief Guest, alongside distinguished diplomats and prominent leaders from India and Russia.
