Odisha’s Longest Rail Tunnel Completed: Connectivity Revolution Begins!
In a landmark achievement, the ongoing Khurda Road–Balangir New Rail Line project reached a significant milestone on April 16, 2025, with the breakthrough of Tunnel T-4 in Boudh district, Odisha. Spanning an impressive 4,185 meters, Tunnel T-4 is now the longest rail tunnel in the state, marking an engineering feat that underscores India’s growing infrastructure prowess.
This development brings Odisha closer to enhanced connectivity between its coastal and western regions, facilitating seamless travel, regional integration, and economic growth. With 226 km of the total 301 km stretch already commissioned, construction work on the remaining 75 km, including seven under-construction tunnels, is progressing steadily. The completion of Tunnel T-4 not only accelerates this endeavor but also strengthens Odisha’s commitment to bridging geographical and developmental gaps within the state.
