Abducted Odisha rice mill owner rescued by police

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 15: Three days after being abducted allegedly for ransom, a rice mill owner was rescued by police in Odisha’s Koraput district early on Monday. A senior police official confirmed that A. Ramesh Patra, the owner of SLVN Modern rice mill in Perahandi, who was abducted on Friday evening, was rescued in the early hours of Monday.
Family members reported that the kidnappers demanded Rs 70 lakh ransom on Saturday night via a call made from Patra’s mobile phone to a family member. However, no further communication was received from the kidnappers on Sunday.
The incident occurred when Patra was returning home in his car, and miscreants intercepted him near Perahandi Chowk around 8:15 PM on Friday. When Patra did not exit his vehicle, the kidnappers allegedly broke the car window and abducted him.
Following his disappearance, Patra’s family filed a missing persons report with Borigumma police, prompting the police to launch special teams and conduct raids in Jeypore and Borrigumma to locate him.
