Dipali Das files court petition against BJP MLA’s election in Jharsuguda

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 13: Former BJD MLA Dipali Das has approached the Orissa High Court, seeking the disqualification of BJP candidate Tankadhar Tripathy from the Jharsuguda constituency. In her petition filed on Friday, Dipali alleges that Tripathy submitted a false affidavit during the Assembly elections in Odisha.
Dipali stated to the media, “The BJP candidate failed to disclose criminal cases pending against him in the affidavit submitted to the state’s chief electoral officer. This omission violates the People’s Representation Act, warranting the nullification of his election.”
She further mentioned that her petition submitted to the court includes detailed evidence and requests judicial intervention in the matter.
Following her electoral defeat, Dipali had previously approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) requesting EVM/VVPAT memory verification in her constituency. The ECI accepted her petition, granting permission for verification at 13 polling stations in Jharsuguda.
Dipali, who won a by-election in Jharsuguda in 2023 after her father and then Health Minister Naba Das passed away, lost the 2024 elections to Tripathy by a margin of 1,333 votes. Tripathy secured 91,105 votes while Dipali received 89,772 votes.
