Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 5: Inspector of Police Trinath Sethy, who was accused of misconduct towards Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi during the recent elections, has been transferred from Keonjhar to Gajapati. The transfer order, issued by the state police headquarters in Cuttack on Friday, reassigns Sethy from his current posting in Keonjhar to Gajapati.
The controversy arose when Sethy, serving as the IIC of Keonjhar Police Station, allegedly behaved inappropriately with Mohan Majhi at the police station just before the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. Reportedly, Sethy had asked Majhi to leave the station premises.
At that time, Mohan Majhi, also the MLA of Keonjhar, led a protest along with others outside the police station in May, demanding action against the IIC and highlighting the incident. The dispute began after residents of Raisuan and Gopinathpur panchayats protested a drinking water shortage by blocking NH-20.
According to Majhi, he visited the area at the request of the aggrieved residents to address their concerns about the water crisis. He assured them that he would inform the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) executive engineer about the issue, after which the road blockade was lifted.
Following this, IIC Trinath Sethy called the residents to the police station for a discussion on the matter. When Majhi accompanied them, it was alleged that Sethy confronted Majhi, questioning his presence at the station during the Model Code of Conduct period and allegedly ordered him to leave, threatening action against him.
