500 Wardens, 5 Districts, One Mission—Saving Lives on Odisha’s Roads
(OT Webdesk)In a bold move to curb the alarming rise in road accidents, Odisha Police has announced the deployment of 500 trained traffic wardens across five high-risk districts—Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Ganjam, and Khurda
The initiative, unveiled during a high-level meeting chaired by Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, aims to enhance enforcement, raise public awareness, and improve road safety infrastructure.
District SPs will oversee recruitment and training of the wardens, who will assist in managing traffic and educating citizens
The campaign will target schools, colleges, and rural areas, with a strong focus on helmet and seatbelt compliance, and cracking down on drunk driving.
Additional measures include identifying accident-prone zones, boosting highway patrolling, installing CCTV surveillance, and deploying ambulances
The initiative is a joint effort with the State Transport Authority and was attended by senior police and transport officials.
DGP Khurania emphasized the urgency of the mission: “Our goal is to prevent ordinary people from becoming victims of reckless driving.”
