Vigilance Raid on Angul Hospital Clerk: Crores in Assets Seized
Angul/Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officials on Wednesday raided multiple properties linked to Subrata Behera, a junior clerk at Angul District Headquarters Hospital, after allegations of disproportionate assets surfaced.
Behera, who began his career with a modest salary of Rs 8,000, was found to be living far beyond his means.
The raids uncovered a lavish threeRs storey house in Angul city, luxury cars including a Skoda, 450 grams of gold jewellery, expensive watches, and numerous bank and postal savings documents.
Teams searched five locations — Behera’s residence in Hakimpada, relatives’ houses in Banra and Bhubaneswar, his ancestral home in Hindol, and his office chamber. The operation involved five DSPs, eight inspectors, and 14 ASIs.
This is not the first time Behera has faced scrutiny. He was previously accused of misappropriating government funds worth Rs 2.38 crore through fake bills and vouchers.
Vigilance officials are still assessing the total value of assets seized, which is expected to rise further.
The case highlights growing concerns about corruption and misuse of public funds within Odisha’s healthcare system.
