28 Andhra Fishing Trawlers Stranded Off Gopalpur Coast Amid Cyclone Montha Turbulence
Ganjam, October 27, 2025 — A fleet of 28 fishing trawlers from Andhra Pradesh has been stranded in the turbulent waters off the coast of Gopalpur in Odisha’s Ganjam district, as Cyclone Montha continues to churn up the Bay of Bengal.
The trawlers, caught in the cyclone’s outer bands, have been unable to return to Andhra Pradesh due to dangerously rough sea conditions. Each vessel is reportedly carrying several fishermen, now stuck at sea as the weather worsens.
Responding swiftly to the crisis, the Gopalpur Port authorities, in coordination with the district administration, have launched a rescue operation. A large vessel stationed at the port has been deployed to guide and tow the stranded trawlers safely back to shore.
Efforts are underway to bring all 28 trawlers into the safety of Gopalpur Port. Officials confirmed that no casualties have been reported so far, and the rescue teams are maintaining constant communication with the stranded fishermen.
The incident underscores the growing threat posed by Cyclone Montha, which has already prompted red alerts across multiple coastal districts. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging fishermen and coastal communities to remain vigilant.
