27th Mines Environment & Mineral Conservation Week 2025 Celebrated at Bagiaburu Iron Ore Mines of OMDC
Barbil, (Kendujhar): The 27th Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation Week (MEMCW) 2025 awareness programme was successfully organised at the Bagiaburu Iron Ore Mines of Odisha Mineral Development Company (OMDC) from December 8 to December 14, 2025.
The event was held under the aegis of the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Bhubaneswar Region.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr Alok Kumar Mohapatra, Head of Geology, Environment & Planning, OMDC, with the objective of sensitising employees and peripheral villagers about mine environment protection and sustainable mineral utilisation.

An inspection team comprising members of Group 10, led by Chandra Sekhar Jena, GM (Mines), visited the Bagiaburu Iron Ore Mines during the week.
A series of activities, including a science exhibition, drawing, slogan writing, and speech competitions, was organised for employees and children from nearby government schools.
Threveni Earthmovers Pvt. Ltd. showcased drilling equipment and exploration works during the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Mohapatra emphasised the importance of safeguarding the mining environment and conserving minerals for future generations.

On December 12, the Best Worker Award was conferred upon Mishra Gope of OMDC.
At the closing ceremony, Shri Bidu Bhusan Gomango, Business Head of OMDC, lauded Dr Mohapatra and his team for their dedicated efforts, stating that their contribution towards environmental protection and mineral conservation would serve as an inspiration for generations to come.
