BMJD protests against Odisha BJP Government over rising crimes against women
Bhubaneswar, Sep 17 (UNI) The Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD), the women wing of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today staged protests in front of SP offices across Odisha, accusing the BJP government of failing to ensure women’s safety in the state.
Led by BMJD President Snehangini Chhuria, the party later submitted memorandums to the SPs, addressed to the DGP, demanding stringent action against those responsible for crimes against women.
Chhuria criticized the government, saying that while crimes against women are rising alarmingly, the BJP is focused on symbolic acts like planting trees in the name of “Maa” (Mother).
She added that women are not safe anywhere – in educational institutions, workplaces, or public spaces – and noted that over the past 14 months, more than 3,500 cases of rape and gang rape have shattered families’ peace of mind.
The memorandum highlighted that the increasing atrocities against women in Odisha have drawn national and international condemnation, with incidents continuing to occur daily.
According to the BMJD, brutal attacks, rapes, gang rapes, sexual harassment, and other forms of violence reflect the BJP government’s administrative failure in the state. It is particularly unfortunate, the party said, that even with women holding key positions such as Speaker and
Deputy Chief Minister, the government has failed to speak out against these atrocities.
Women from all 35 BJD organizational districts, along with district office bearers, participated in
the protests in large numbers, raising their voices against the BJP government’s apathy toward preventing injustice and violence against women.
