14-Year-Old Boy Murders 5-Year-Old Over Family Dispute in Odisha’s Nabarangpur
Nabarangpur, October 18, 2025: In a deeply disturbing incident, a 14-year-old boy allegedly killed a 5-year-old child in Krushnaguda village under Papadahandi police limits, Nabarangpur district.
The motive appears to be revenge stemming from a family dispute that escalated after a village meeting.
The victim, Majesh Mahuria, went missing on Friday morning. His body was later discovered inside an abandoned house near the accused’s residence.
The accused, also a minor, was found hiding inside and initially denied involvement. Police broke open the door and detained him.
Preliminary investigations suggest the murder was triggered by anger over the public humiliation of the accused’s father, Shiba Mahuria, who had allegedly lost Rs 4,000 days earlier.
The accused reportedly acted out of rage following the fallout from the village meeting.
A scientific team has begun examining the crime scene. Papadahandi IIC Deepak Jena confirmed that the case will be handled under juvenile justice laws, given the ages of both the victim and the accused.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and reignited concerns about rising juvenile violence in rural Odisha.
