Vijay Kumar Malhotra Dies at 93 | BJP Veteran Leader’s Legacy Remembered
Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, a towering figure in Delhi’s political landscape and a founding pillar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), passed away on Tuesday morning at the age of 93.
The Delhi BJP confirmed his demise, stating he had been undergoing treatment at AIIMS for several days.
Malhotra’s political journey began in the Jan Sangh era and spanned decades of public service.
He was the first president of BJP’s Delhi unit, served five terms as a Member of Parliament, and twice as an MLA. He also held the position of Delhi’s chief executive councillor—equivalent to today’s chief minister.
Known for his simplicity and unwavering commitment to public welfare, Malhotra earned respect across party lines. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute on X (formerly Twitter), calling him an “outstanding leader” who played a vital role in strengthening the BJP in Delhi.
His passing comes just a day after PM Modi inaugurated the BJP’s first permanent state office in Delhi—an initiative long envisioned by Malhotra.
His mortal remains will be placed at his official residence on Gurdwara Rakabganj Road for party workers and admirers to pay their last respects.
