Bhubaneswar,(Orissa Today) Feb 5: The Odisha Police have apprehended Uttam Kumar Paswan, a key accused in the January 3 heist at Manappuram Finance in Sambalpur, from Guwahati, Assam, IG (Northern Range) Himanshu Lal confirmed on Wednesday. Sambalpur police are now preparing to seek a seven-day remand for further investigation into the case.
Meanwhile, on January 27, an eight-member team of Odisha Police traveled to Bihar to take custody of the alleged mastermind, Pallu Singh, who is currently lodged at Beur Central Jail. Investigators suspect the involvement of an inter-state dacoity gang, with masterminds operating from jails in Bihar and West Bengal.
According to police sources, the gang, led by Subodh Singh and Pallu Singh, has been orchestrating crimes while being incarcerated. Subodh Singh is lodged at Presidency Jail in Kolkata, while Pallu Singh is in Beur Jail, Patna. Efforts are underway to dismantle their criminal network and prevent further incidents.
The daring daylight heist took place on January 3 when a group of armed robbers stormed the Manappuram Gold Loan office on Budharaja Main Road in Sambalpur city. The gang fled on motorcycles with approximately 30 kg of gold and over ₹4 lakh in cash.
