Odisha Government Expands Internal Audit Wings to 38 Departments for Stronger Fiscal Oversight
In a decisive move to bolster fiscal discipline and enhance transparency, the Odisha Government has expanded its internal audit mechanism by establishing audit wings in 10 additional departments.
This brings the total number of departments under internal audit coverage to 38.
The Finance Department, which oversees internal audits across the state, reallocated 85 personnel from its sanctioned strength of 510 to operationalise the new wings.
The departments now included are Water Resources, Rural Development, Works, Energy, Skill Development & Technical Education, Electronics & IT, Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts, Industries, Odia Language, Literature & Culture, and Tourism.
This strategic expansion aims to:
- Detect financial risks early
- Minimise audit objections
- Ensure continuous compliance
- Promote responsible public fund utilisation
The centralised audit structure ensures uniform standards and professional oversight, reinforcing Odisha’s commitment to institutional transparency and accountable governance.
By tightening financial systems, the state is paving the way for long-term fiscal prudence and improved public trust.
