Odisha forms hospital fire safety task forces amidst safety concerns

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 15: To enhance fire safety measures in hospitals, the Odisha government has mandated the formation of task forces across all municipal corporations and districts.
Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja has directed the establishment of joint task forces comprising officials from the Health, Home departments, and Electrical Inspectors, according to a release from the Health and Family Welfare department on Sunday.
These task forces are tasked with conducting regular audits of fire and electrical safety in hospitals and nursing homes under their jurisdiction. For facilities under municipal corporations, the task forces will be chaired by the Municipal Commissioner, with members including Police SP/DSP, Directors of prominent hospitals, Fire Officers, and Electrical Inspectors. Similarly, district task forces will be chaired by the District Collector, with members such as Security Superintendents, CDM&PHO officials, Fire Officers, and Electrical Inspectors.
The Health department will furnish a comprehensive list of hospitals and nursing homes to the municipal corporations and district administrations. The task forces will conduct periodic audits, maintaining detailed records of their findings.
This initiative follows recent fire incidents at two private hospitals in Cuttack city on Saturday, prompting the urgent need for enhanced safety measures.
