
Kantara Chapter 1 Roars Past Rs 650 Crore Worldwide, Surpasses Baahubali and Sultan
Kantara Chapter 1 continues its unstoppable box office run, crossing Rs 650 crore globally within just 12 days of release.
The Kannada period action drama, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, has now outperformed the lifetime collections of Baahubali: The Beginning and Sultan, two of India’s biggest blockbusters.
On Day 12, the film earned Rs 13.50 crore net in India, showing a 64% drop from Sunday’s Rs 39.75 crore but maintaining a strong trend. Domestically, it has amassed Rs 451.90 crore net (Rs 542 crore gross), while overseas collections have exceeded $11 million, driven by robust performance in North America.
According to Hombale Films, the movie raked in Rs 146 crore gross over its second weekend, pushing its total worldwide earnings to approximately Rs 655 crore. Trade analysts estimate the 12-day global total to be around Rs 650 crore.
With this feat, Kantara Chapter 1 now ranks 17th among India’s highest-grossing films, overtaking Sultan and Baahubali: The Beginning. It is also the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, trailing only Chhaava (Rs 808 crore).
A prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, the film is set a thousand years before the original and has been lauded for its epic storytelling, stunning visuals, and powerful performances. The cast includes Rishab Shetty, Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah.
