Curfew relaxed in Cuttack as city gradually returns to normalcy
Cuttack, Oct 7 (UNI) The curfew imposed in Cuttack city following group clashes during the immersion procession of Durga idols was relaxed today after 36 hours, as the situation began returning to normal.
Police Commissioner S. Deb Dutta Singh said the city is slowly limping back to normalcy, with no untoward incidents reported in the past 24 hours.
He informed that since there was no official communication regarding an extension of the curfew, which was due to lapse at 10 am, the restrictions were lifted to facilitate a return to routine life.
The curfew had been imposed in 13 police station limits to prevent any deterioration of law and order following the violence reported during the idol immersion on Saturday night.
However, internet services remain suspended till 7 pm today, after the State Home Department extended the suspension for another 24 hours based on the district administration’s request to curb the spread of misinformation on social media.
With the relaxation of curfew, shops and business establishments reopened, and vehicular movement resumed across the city. The district administration has maintained strict vigil in sensitive areas, with police forces deployed at key locations to ensure peace and order.
