Rs 70 Lakh Seized on Train at Titilagarh: RPF Detains Two

Titilagarh, Odisha | October 18, 2025 — In a major crackdown on suspected illegal cash movement, Railway Protection Force (RPF) officials seized Rs 70 lakh in unaccounted cash from the Dharti Aaba Superfast Express at Titilagarh station.

The train was travelling from Ernakulam to Hatia when authorities, acting on intelligence inputs, intercepted suspicious luggage.

The cash was discovered packed in multiple bags without any supporting documentation.

Two individuals — Prabhat Kumar Sahu and Umesh Prasad — were detained for questioning after failing to provide a valid explanation for the money. The Income Tax Department has been alerted and is now investigating the source and intended destination of the funds.

Officials are reviewing CCTV footage and passenger manifests to trace potential links to broader financial irregularities.

This seizure marks one of the largest cash recoveries at Titilagarh station in recent years and has sparked renewed scrutiny of railway routes as conduits for illicit financial transfers.

Authorities are expected to tighten surveillance and introduce stricter baggage screening protocols across key junctions in the coming weeks.
