Fire Breaks Out on Garib Rath Express Near Sirhind Station; Passengers Evacuated Safely

Sirhind, Punjab | October 18, 2025 — Panic gripped passengers aboard the Garib Rath Express travelling from Ludhiana to Delhi when a fire broke out in coach number 19 early Saturday morning, coinciding with the Dhanteras festival.

The incident occurred around 7:00 AM near Sirhind station, reportedly due to a short circuit. As smoke began billowing from the coach, passengers raised an alarm, prompting the train to halt immediately using emergency brakes.

Quick-thinking passengers evacuated with their belongings, and railway officials swiftly arrived on the scene.

Firefighting efforts took nearly an hour, and one woman was reported injured due to burns. Several others sustained minor injuries during the evacuation.
