Congress Ramps Up Nuapada Bypoll Campaign with Ghasiram Majhi and Massive Rally
Nuapada, October 16, 2025 — The Congress party has launched a high-voltage campaign for the upcoming Nuapada by-election, signaling its intent to reclaim the tribal stronghold.
With seasoned leader Ghasiram Majhi officially nominated as the candidate, the party is banking on grassroots momentum and strategic coordination to challenge its rivals.
Majhi, a five-time contender from Nuapada, returns to the fray after an independent run in 2024, where he secured over 50,000 votes and narrowly lost to BJD’s Rajendra Dholakia. His re-entry under the Congress banner reflects renewed confidence in his local influence.
To bolster its campaign machinery, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee President Bhakta Charan Das has constituted two key committees:
- A 10-member steering committee led by MP Saptagiri Ulaka
- A 22-member election monitoring committee featuring prominent figures like Debashish Pattnaik, Siddharth Swarup Das, and MLAs Ashok Das, Sagar Charan Das, and Satyajit Gamang
The party is set to stage a massive rally on October 18, with over 25,000 supporters expected to accompany Majhi during his nomination filing. The by-election is scheduled for November 11, with results to be declared on November 14.
Majhi will face BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria and BJP’s Jay Dholakia in a triangular contest. With tribal backing and a unified campaign strategy, Congress is aiming to reassert its presence in western Odisha.
