Annual Terracotta Exhibition “Mruttika-2025” begins in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, Oct 13 (UNI) The Annual Terracotta Exhibition “Mruttika-2025” began here today, bringing together terracotta and pottery artisans from across Odisha under one roof.
Around 350 artisans from all districts of the state are participating in the event, which celebrates the state’s rich tradition of terracotta craftsmanship.
Addressing the media, State Handlooms, Textiles, and Handicrafts Minister Pradip Bal Samant said terracotta and pottery crafts represent Odisha’s ancient culture and glorious heritage.
More than 36,000 artisans across the state, he added, earn their livelihood through this craft.
The Minister said the annual exhibition aims to economically empower artisans and promote this traditional art form.
Handlooms and Textiles Secretary Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar said the main objective of the event is to enhance the commercial prospects and economic development of artisans.
The state government expects total business during the exhibition to exceed Rs 3 crore. The theme pavilion highlights the evolution of terracotta—from traditional utility items to modern decorative art pieces.
Official sources said Odisha has over 40 terracotta craft clusters, and the craft is recognised as one of the state’s oldest handicraft traditions.
The government has provided free stalls, travel expenses, daily allowances, and material transport facilities to all participating artisans.
To strengthen infrastructure in the handicrafts sector, Common Facility Centres, Handicraft Tourism Centres, and Raw Material Banks are being set up in 28 major handicraft clusters across the state. These initiatives are being implemented in phases under the brand name ‘Srujanika’.
Recently, the state government enhanced the daily allowance of artisans during exposure visits outside the state from Rs 300 to Rs 500. To nurture new talent, 18 new training centres have been established across 17 districts this year.
