Odisha CM Majhi Joins Kartika Habisyali Brata 2025, Announces Digital Registration for Devotees from 2026
PURI: In a powerful gesture of solidarity and reverence, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi joined thousands of women observing the sacred Kartika Habisyali Brata at Brundavati Niwas in Puri.
Hailing their month-long fast as the “moral backbone of Odisha,” Majhi emphasised the spiritual and cultural significance of the tradition, calling it a living emblem of Odia identity.
In a landmark announcement, the CM unveiled plans for a dedicated digital registration portal for Habisyalis starting in 2026.
The portal will offer integrated medical and emergency services, streamlining access and ensuring safety for thousands of women who undertake the austere vow each year.
“Puri is not just a pilgrimage site—it’s the soul of Odia devotion,” Majhi declared, reaffirming the government’s commitment to transforming the city into a world-class religious destination.
The recent declaration of Puri as a municipal corporation marks the beginning of this vision, with infrastructure upgrades already underway.
This year, the Odisha government allocated Rs 3.30 crore—an increase of Rs 70 lakh over last year—to support around 2,500 Habisyalis. Facilities include accommodation and meals at five venues, backed by robust volunteer networks, police security, and medical teams.
Majhi concluded his address by invoking the teachings of Lord Jagannath—equality, empathy, and unity—and expressed hope that the prayers of the Habisyalis would guide Odisha toward peace and prosperity.
