Odisha Fast-Tracks Forest Clearances to Accelerate Mega Infrastructure Projects

In a decisive move to bolster Odisha’s infrastructure momentum, the state’s Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department convened a high-level coordination meeting on October 13, 2025.

Chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Satyabrata Sahu, the session focused on expediting forest diversion proposals critical to several mega projects across sectors like transport, energy, mining, and telecommunications.

Held at the Home Department’s Conference Hall, the meeting brought together senior officials from key user agencies, including the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Indian Railways, Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), Geological Survey of India (GSI), Reliance Jio, and Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).

The Capital Region Ring Road, Goru–Mahisani Railway Line, Reliance Jio’s 4G rollout, and Kalyani Steel’s integrated plant were among the projects reviewed.

ACS Sahu emphasized strict adherence to timelines and directed all Regional Chief Conservators of Forests (RCCFs) and Divisional Forest Officers (DFOs) to prioritize pending proposals.

Nodal officers were tasked with proactive monitoring and facilitation, while user agencies were urged to promptly furnish all required documentation to avoid delays.

The meeting underscored Odisha’s commitment to balancing ecological responsibility with rapid development.

By streamlining forest clearance processes, the state aims to unlock the timely execution of strategic infrastructure that will enhance connectivity, boost industrial growth, and improve public services.
