CM Majhi Advocates Indian Knowledge Systems at NEP 2020 Seminar in Puri
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing Indian knowledge systems during a national seminar on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 held at the Central Sanskrit University in Puri.
Addressing scholars, educators, and policymakers, Majhi emphasised that NEP 2020 is India’s first education policy of the 21st century, designed to transform the nation into a global knowledge power. He highlighted the integration of Indian thought with modern learning as a cornerstone of the policy.
Majhi urged the youth to reconnect with India’s rich cultural heritage and intellectual traditions, stating that education must go beyond literacy and numeracy to foster analytical thinking, moral values, and constitutional patriotism.
Quoting Kautilya’s Arthashastra—“People’s welfare is the ruler’s true joy”—he called for reforms that align with Sustainable Development Goal 4 while preserving the Indian ethos.
The seminar featured prominent voices including Dr. Atul Kothari and Dr. Pankaj Mittal, who echoed the need to embed Indian values in pedagogy. Over three days, discussions explored themes such as “Education and Indian Values,” “Indian Knowledge Systems and Modern Education,” and “Foundations of NEP 2020.”
Majhi concluded by asserting Odisha’s leadership role in promoting Indian education and culture, positioning the state as a torchbearer for value-based learning in the NEP era.
