Odisha Welcomes Asia’s Best as 28th Table Tennis Team Championships Begin in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, October 11, 2025: The 28th Asian Table Tennis Team Championships 2025 officially commenced today at the Athletics Centre of Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar, marking a major milestone in Odisha’s growing reputation as a global sports destination.

Odisha’s Sports Minister Shri Suryabanshi Suraj inaugurated the prestigious event, which brings together top-tier talent from 22 countries, including Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Maldives, Uzbekistan, Oman, DPR Korea, Macau China, Thailand, Bangladesh, Qatar, and Nepal.

The opening ceremony was graced by several distinguished dignitaries:

  • Ms. Sheikha Hayat Al Khalifa, Acting Regional Vice-President of the Asian Table Tennis Union (ATTU) and President of the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation
  • Shri Dushyant Chautala, President of the Table Tennis Federation of India
  • Mrs. Meghna Ahlawat
  • Shri Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Odisha Sports Department

Adding star power to the event, India’s table tennis legend and Padma Shri awardee A. Sharath Kamal was introduced as the official Brand Ambassador.

Minister Suraj expressed pride in Odisha’s ability to host such a high-calibre international event, reinforcing the state’s commitment to sports excellence. “This championship is not just a tournament—it’s a celebration of unity, talent, and Odisha’s emergence on the global sports map,” he said.

The championship features high-octane matches in both men’s and women’s categories and is expected to draw significant attention from fans and scouts across Asia.
