Odisha approves 14 Green Hydrogen Projects worth Rs. 2 lakh crore:Deputy CM

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 (UNI) Odisha has approved 14 Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia projects in the state, with a proposed investment of around Rs. 2 lakh crore, Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo announced today.
These projects are expected to generate employment opportunities for approximately 22,000 people, Singh Deo said during the signing of renewable energy (RE) banking agreements between the state-owned GRIDCO and M/s ReNew E-Fuels Private Limited for 50 MW, and M/s UltraTech Cement Ltd for 6.25 MW.

The Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the energy portfolio, said the agreements will strengthen Odisha’s commitment to advancing renewable energy adoption and the Green Hydrogen (Green Ammonia) sector, paving the way for a sustainable and prosperous future.
“The agreements reinforce Odisha’s leadership in industrial development, supported by robust policies, strong green infrastructure, and strategic seaports, in line with growing industrial demand,” he added.
Principal Secretary of Energy Vishal Dev highlighted the significance of RE power banking, noting
that energy generation from solar and wind is intermittent and weather-dependent.

“Banking RE power allows consumers to store surplus energy and use it during periods of low renewable generation,” he explained.

Dev further said Odisha has adopted a forward-thinking approach to renewable energy development under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy, 2022, and the OERC (Promotion of Renewable Energy through Green Energy Open Access) Regulations, 2023.
These regulations aim to promote green energy through open access, enable energy banking, and encourage the production of Green Hydrogen, Green Ammonia, and their derivatives, offering incentives for setting up RE projects in the state.
MD of GRIDCO, Satyapriya Rath, along with representatives from ReNew, UltraTech Cement, and senior officers from the Energy Department and GRIDCO, were present at the agreement signing.
