
Odisha to develop Jackfruit clusters under PPP Mode with Maharashtra firm
Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 (UNI) The Odisha government has decided to develop jackfruit clusters under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode with processing facilities, in collaboration with Maharashtra-based JackfruitKing Agro Producer Company Ltd.
JackfruitKing Agro Producer Company Ltd. Chairman Mithilesh Desai met Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment K. V. Singh Deo to discuss jackfruit cultivation and processing opportunities in the state.
Principal Secretary, DA & FE, Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, Director of Horticulture Kalunge Gorakh Waman, and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
According to official sources, the proposed jackfruit clusters with processing units are planned in Kandhamal, Keonjhar, and Koraput, along with six other “Mission Districts” such as Angul, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, and Sundargarh.
It was decided that agricultural and horticultural farms may be provided to the company for the area expansion of jackfruit cultivation, if required.
The meeting also resolved to include the Padmapur Sub-division of Bargarh district and the Patnagarh Sub-division of Bolangir district under the Jackfruit Mission due to their rich agro-biodiversity.
To help farmers and FPOs gain practical exposure, an exposure visit to Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, will be organised to study the jackfruit business ecosystem.
Emphasizing end-to-end integration, Singh Deo said the initiative aims to develop an Odisha-based jackfruit brand with strong market linkage.
