Mahakalpada Tahasildar Arrested for Possessing Assets 190% Above Known Income
In a major crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance has arrested Siba Mallick, Tahasildar of Mahakalpada in Kendrapara district, for possessing disproportionate assets (DA) valued at nearly double his known sources of income.
Investigators uncovered a staggering portfolio including four buildings, seven plots, Rs 18 lakh in bank deposits, and Rs 1.55 lakh in cash. Mallick failed to account for the origins of these assets, prompting Vigilance to register a fresh case (Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.31) under Sections 13(2), 13(1)(b), and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. His spouse has also been named in the FIR.
This arrest follows an earlier bribery case from September 23, when Mallick was caught red-handed accepting Rs 20,000 to facilitate the removal of an illegal structure. That case (PS Case No.29) was filed under Section 7 of the same Act.
Vigilance officials conducted extensive searches across multiple properties linked to Mallick, confirming the presence of substantial unaccounted wealth. He is being forwarded to court as investigations continue.
The arrest underscores Odisha Vigilance’s intensified efforts to root out corruption and uphold transparency in public service.
