Vanik Coaching Centre Under Scrutiny in Odisha SI Exam Scam
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Crime Branch has unearthed a major recruitment scam involving the Sub-Inspector (SI) examination, detaining 114 candidates in connection with fraudulent activities.
DSP Narendra Behera confirmed that several of the arrested individuals were linked to Vanik Coaching Centre, which allegedly facilitated their participation in the compromised exam.
The investigation revealed that candidates were intercepted near the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border while en route to the exam venue. Many had reportedly paid hefty sums for leaked question papers and guaranteed selection.
Authorities seized mobile phones, original certificates, blank cheques, and incriminating documents from the suspects.
According to officials, intermediaries working for a larger crime syndicate orchestrated the scam, collecting sensitive documents and payments from candidates.
The Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) has since postponed the examination, citing the need to preserve the integrity of the recruitment process.
The role of Vanik Coaching Centre and other private agencies is now under intense scrutiny. Investigators are probing whether the coaching centre directly facilitated the fraud or acted as a conduit for the syndicate. Further arrests and disclosures are expected as the probe deepens.
The Crime Branch has reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency and fairness in public recruitment, warning that any institution found complicit will face strict legal action.
